🧵 Straight Seams, A Striking Reveal

Sew the fabric strips, pair the squares, stitch around the perimeter, then cut and rearrange the units to reveal the diamond design. The interest comes from fabric placement and rotation, without curved piecing or appliqué construction.

Best for confident beginners familiar with rotary cutting and accurate seams. Diagonal cuts create bias edges, so careful handling, precise cutting and gentle pressing are important. This guide assumes basic sewing knowledge; it is not a first-time sewing course.

✂️ Choose Fabrics You Love

The pieced-strip method uses five strips at least 20 inches long: two medium-value strips 2½ inches wide, two light strips 2 inches wide and one print strip 3 inches wide. Follow the guide for their order and assembly. Suitable fat quarters can provide the required strip lengths.

For the pictured Christmas palette, consider an evergreen star print, a plain ivory and a small angel-print cotton. Printed figures may rotate or be cropped at seams as the pieces are cut and rearranged. Exact fabrics and print placement are not guaranteed.
