🎄 39 Quilted Petals. Four Sizes. One Beautiful Tree.
The petals gradually become smaller as the tree rises, creating a beautifully tapered silhouette from the wide, flowing lower skirt to the delicate quilted crown.
Petal A — 21 quilted petals · Rows 1–3
Petal B — 9 quilted petals · Rows 4–5
Petal C — 6 quilted petals · Rows 6–7
Petal D — 3 quilted petals · Row 8 crown
⭐ Star Topper — Handmade lightly padded five-point fabric star
✨ One Simple Method Creates Every Petal
Each petal is a small three-layer quilt sandwich made from a decorative fabric front, a plain backing and low-loft cotton batting. The layers are sewn along a gentle curve, trimmed, clipped, turned right side out and pressed before being edgestitched and quilted with a simple center vein.
1 · Cut & Layer
2 · Sew
3 · Trim & Turn
4 · Press
5 · Edge & Quilt
Learn the technique once, then repeat it in four graduated sizes to create the entire tree.
✂️ Four Graduated Petal Sizes
Petal A: 3¾" × 5" cut size → approx. 3¼" × 4½" finished
Petal B: 3¼" × 4¼" cut size → approx. 2¾" × 3¾" finished
Petal C: 2¾" × 3½" cut size → approx. 2¼" × 3" finished
Petal D: 2¼" × 3" cut size → approx. 1¾" × 2½" finished
🌲 A Strong Hidden Cone Creates the Perfect Shape
The tree is supported by a firm cone made from ultra-firm single-sided fusible stabiliser and covered with coordinating cotton fabric. Once formed and closed with a covered base circle, the cone stands securely while remaining completely hidden beneath the overlapping quilted petals. An optional weighted fabric bag can be added inside the base for extra stability.
🎄 Built From the Bottom Up
The 39 finished petals are attached around the covered cone in eight carefully staggered rows. Each petal is secured only along its upper edge, allowing the remainder to hang freely and create the soft, dimensional layers that make the finished tree look full from every angle.

Alternating tick positions stagger the rows so every gap and attachment line disappears beneath the layer above.
🪡 Choose Your Preferred Assembly Method
Hot Glue
The recommended method for fast, permanent attachment with no visible stitches.
Hand Stitching
A slower needle-and-thread alternative that remains adjustable while you work.
⭐ Finish It With a Handmade Quilted Star
The tree is crowned with its own lightly padded five-point fabric star. Made with the same sew, turn, press and edgestitch method as the petals, the finished star measures approximately 4¾" × 4½". Add the optional echo-quilted line, then secure it upright above the final three crown petals for the perfect handmade finishing touch.
🧵 Designed for Five Coordinating Christmas Prints
Choose five small-scale quilting-cotton prints with clearly different values for a beautifully balanced tree. Deep green, sage, cream, cranberry and warm tan create the classic sample palette, but the placement guide is flexible enough to showcase your own favorite Christmas collection.
