No-Sew Folded Fabric House Ornament Pattern

A dimensional no-sew fabric cottage built on two soft foam cubes: a porch step, a door with window panes, a brick front and a neat band, plus optional twinkling lights, mini pine trees, a wreath and a printable welcome mat.

Every fabric piece is folded and pinned onto the foam, so this cottage is truly no-sew, with no sewing machine needed. Each of the 196 steps has its own numbered photo, so you can follow along at your own pace.

How it works

Cut. Cut one foam cube in half to 3 x 3 x 1″ for the porch step, using a hot knife or a serrated kitchen knife.

Fold & pin. Fold and pin fabric pieces over the foam with neat mitered corners to make the porch step, the door with window panes and the brick front.

Join & decorate. Join the two cubes, cover the back, add the band, then decorate the porch. Lights, trees and wreath are optional, and the pattern tells you where to skip ahead if you leave them out.

Fabrics

• Fabric #1, porch step: (2) 2-1/2″ x 3-1/4″ rectangles and (1) 5″ x 6″ rectangle.
• Fabric #2, window panes: (1) 1-1/2″ x 2″ piece.
• Fabric #3, door: (1) 1″ x 1-1/2″ rectangle, (1) 1-1/2″ x 2″ rectangle, (1) 2-1/2″ x 4″ rectangle and (2) 2-1/2″ x 3-1/2″ rectangles.
• Fabric #4, home exterior: (3) 3″ x 4″ rectangles, (1) 1-1/2″ x 2-1/2″ rectangle, (1) 4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″ rectangle and (1) 5-1/2″ x 15″ strip. If adding lights, also (1) 3-1/2″ x 6″ rectangle and (1) 1-1/2″ x 2″ rectangle.
• How much fabric: Fabric #4 is a fat quarter (the band strip needs 5-1/2″ x 15″). For Fabrics #1 to #3, scraps are enough.

• 1/4″ x 2″ strip of card stock (address plate) and an additional scrap of card stock

• (1) 2-1/2″ piece of 1/8″ wide ribbon (wreath bow)

• Small battery-operated LED micro string lights (optional)

Tools: flexible tape measure, fabric scissors, glue or glue dots, hot knife (or a serrated kitchen knife) and a pen or pencil for marking your foam. Using a brick, wood-plank or other linear print? Read the Fabric Notes in the pattern before cutting.

Safety note

This ornament is made with pins, beads and other small parts, and the pattern includes foam cutting with sharp tools. Keep the ornament and your supplies away from children and pets. If you add lights, switch them off when unattended.
