Christmas Cottage Bloom is a cheerful, cottage-style fabric flower for your front door, about 20″ across, with 28 padded, quilted petals in Christmas red, cream and deep green arranged in three layers around a fluffy mustard-gold yarn pom-pom. A braided green fabric hanger and a fabric-tube bow bring it to about 25″ long, ready to hang on the door to welcome every Christmas guest. Each petal is sewn and turned with batting, topstitched with vein lines and pleated at the base, so there is no binding, no piecing and no appliqué.

Make It Your Own
For the look shown, sew 12 petals from Christmas red prints, 8 from cream and 8 from deep green, mixed within each layer by the included color map, then finish the center with a 4″ mustard-gold yarn pom-pom. Three green fabric tubes braid into the hanger, topped with a fabric-tube bow.
The petals are small and scrap-friendly, so this is a lovely way to use the red, cream and green cotton prints already in your stash. Mix several prints in each color for a cozy cottage look.

Before You Begin
Finished size: About 20″ across the flower and about 25″ long including the braided hanger and bow. 28 petals in 3 layers (16 Large, 6 Medium, 6 Small) stitched to a padded 8″ base circle, with a 4″ yarn pom-pom center.
Materials (42″ width of fabric): Red: ¾ yard · Cream: ⅝ yard · Green: ¾ yard (includes hanger and bow) · Base fabric: ¼ yard · Batting: 1 yard · Felt: 9″ × 9″ · Bulky yarn: about 50 g for the pom-pom.
Techniques used: Sew-and-turn petals with batting, topstitched vein lines, pleated petal bases, stitching the petals to a padded base, a braided fabric-tube hanger and bow, and a back finished with zig-zag stitching and a felt circle. No binding, no piecing and no appliqué.
Skill level: Confident beginner.
