  • Fabric and tool guidance, including fusible web, thread and sewing-machine requirements.
  • Four numbered appliqué stages: prepare the templates, prepare the fabrics, arrange the tree and stitch the edges.
  • Separate printable shape templates with letter labels and a tree-placement reference.
  • Directions for adding backing and batting, basting and quilting the layers.
  • Binding preparation using 2½-inch strips, edge finishing and final pressing.

Flowing Curves, Template-Guided Appliqué

The construction steps use fusible-web appliqué: trace the shapes, fuse them to your chosen fabrics, cut them out, arrange them on the background and secure the edges with a zigzag or satin stitch. The curved branches are fabric shapes placed on the background, rather than a straight-seam patchwork block.

A thoughtful project for confident beginners with basic sewing-machine experience and makers who enjoy careful fabric cutting. Practise the edge stitch on a scrap first, then work slowly around the curves. The guide assumes basic sewing and quilting knowledge; it is not a complete first-time quilting course.

Make the Christmas Colours Your Own

Choose a light background, coordinating Christmas cottons for the tree layers and trunk, binding fabric, backing, batting and fusible web. You will also need an iron, fabric-cutting tools, a marking pencil, pins or clips, matching thread and a machine with zigzag or satin-stitch capability.

Try the evergreen, ivory and gold inspiration shown here, or use your own festive palette. The angels, stars, holly and botanical details come from your chosen fabric prints; they are not separate embroidered figures or included printable fabric designs.
